An historic photo view of the Old Dutch Church and Burying Ground, Sleepy Hollow, New York. Built in the 1690's and completed about 1697, this is the second oldest church building remaining in New York.
This church is the setting that Washington Irving used in his short story titled, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. A number of individuals buried in this cemetery are believed to be the inspiration that Washington Irving used as the basis for characters in the The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
Next to but separate from the Old Dutch Church and Burying Ground is the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery where Washington Irving and a number of other noted individuals are buried.
Sleepy Hollow is a village in the town of Mount Pleasant, Westchester County, New York.
