T. W. SANDFORD, real estate and auctioneer, 505 Madison Avenue, Covington, Ky., was born in Burlington, Boone Co., Ky., October 12, 1849, the second of a family of eight children born to J. W. and Ann C. (Calvert) Sandford. J. W. Sandford was born in Kenton County, Ky., in 1825. He was city clerk of Covington for twelve years, was city auditor for six years, was also city assessor, and was one of the committee appointed to select ground on which to build the custom house. He was also sheriff of Boone County for six years. He was a son of Thomas and Nancy W. (Stephens) Sandford. Thomas Sandford was a native of Virginia. Mrs. Ann C. Sandford was born in Kentucky, and was a daughter of Willis Calvert, who was a major in the Indian war, and was shot through the body. T. W. Sandford moved to Covington with his parents in 1862, was educated in Covington and Cincinnati, was in the city clerk’s office under his father for ten years, and was deputy assessor for three terms. He then opened a cigar and tobacco store in Covington and continued one year, was then appointed constable, and in 1880 was elected for two years. He is now in the real estate and note brokerage and auctioneer business. He was married in March, 1880, to Frances Hubert, of Covington, daughter of John Hubert. Two children have blessed this union: Jennie C. and Hubert P. Mr. Sandford is a member of the Golden Rule, K. P. and Red Men fraternities, and is politically a Democrat.
