JOHN R. COPPIN was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, December 24, 1849, and is a son of William and Mary (Roberts) Coppin, natives, respectively, of Cincinnati and England, the latter coming to the United States when four months old. William Coppin was a carpenter and builder, and was a son of Joseph Coppin, of England. Our subject was educated at the public schools of his native city, and in 1873 engaged in the dry goods business in Covington, Ky., in a store 15x60 feet. In 1883 he moved to his present place of business in the same city, where he has the finest dry goods house in the place; the store is 25x150 with an L 40x75, and twenty-five clerks are employed. In 1875 Mr. Coppin married Lizzie R. Egolf, of Cincinnati, and four children have been born to them, viz.: Florence E., John Roberts, George Clifford and Elizabeth George. Mr. Coppin is a member of the Episcopal Church, and politically he is a Democrat.
