Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

CHARLES H. DAVIS was born in Covington, Ky., March 31, 1852, and is the sixth of a family of eight children born to Charles H. and Ann J. (Kellett) Davis. Charles H. Davis, Sr., was born in London, England, in 1813, came to the United States in 1833, and was one of the first settlers of Covington, Ky., at which place there were only two log houses at that time. He was employed by the Kentucky Central Railroad for thirty-two years. Mrs. Ann J. Davis was a native of Ireland, and a daughter of Andrew Kellett. Charles H. Davis, the subject of this sketch, was educated at the common schools, and when thirteen years of age was employed by the Kentucky Central Railroad as message boy. He was afterward promoted to bill clerk, but was compelled to resign, on account of his eyes, and accepted the position of receiving and loading freight. He has been agent for the Cincinnati Omnibus Company for thirteen years. He married, November 25, 1877, Lillie Desourd, who was born on the Atlantic Ocean, and is a daughter of Martin and Catherine (Mayers) Desourd. Four children have been born to their union, three living: Charles J., John W. and Stanley K. Mr. Davis is a member of the Presbyterian Church, a Knight of Pythias, and a Republican. Mrs. Davis is a member of the Catholic Church.
