Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

JOEL B. FRAIZER was born in Harrison County, Ky., December 14, 1807. He is the seventh of a family of ten children born to Joel and Margaret (Miller) Fraizer. Joel Fraizer, Sr., was born in Pennsylvania; he came to Kentucky, and settled in Harrison County at a very early date, where he lived and died. His wife, Margaret Miller, was born in Virginia, and came to Kentucky at an early date and settled in Harrison County. Joel Fraizer, Sr., was a farmer, and for several years was one of the county officials of Harrison County. Joel B. Fraizer was brought up on the farm, and received a common-school education. He lived in Harrison County until 1839, when he moved to Boone County, and purchased land and settled where he now resides. He owns 331 acres of land, all well improved. On December 15, 1836, he was married to America Snodgrass, a daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Simmons) Snodgrass, of Harrison County, but originally from Pennsylvania and Virginia. To this union have been born nine children — seven daughters and two sons — viz.: Mary K., Margaret A., Bell H.. Laura, James L., Emma D., Thomas J., Ada and Lizzie. Laura, Thomas J., Ada, Lizzie and Emma D, are dead. Mr. and Mrs. Fraizer have been members of the Presbyterian Church for more than forty years. Politically Mr. Fraizer is a Democrat.
