Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

EUGENE S. RICE, M. D., was born in Boone County, Ky., April 9, 1857, the only child born to William B. and Mary A. (Cornelious) Rice. William B. Rice was born in Boone County, and was a son of Richard Rice, one of the pioneers of Kentucky. William B. Rice was brought up on the farm, but followed stock trading very extensively all his life. Mary A. Cornelious, his wife, was born in Kenton County. Our subject was brought up on the farm, and received his education at Eminence, Ky. In 1876 he commenced the study of medicine with Dr. Orin E. Newton, of Cincinnati, and graduated in medicine from the New York Eclectic Medical College in 1879. He then located at Independence, in Kenton County, Ky., and practiced his profession until 1882, and in 1883 he moved to Florence, where he has been actively engaged in the practice of medicine ever since. Mr. Rice is not married. He is a member of the I. O. O. F., and a Republican.
