Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

ARTHUR B. PARKER, a native of Boone County, Ky., was born in 1838, and is a son of Richard and Sarah (Hogan) Parker. Richard Parker was a son of Richard Parker, Sr., who was a native of Virginia and of English ancestry. Mrs. Parker was a daughter of Elijah Hogan, who was a native of North Carolina, and of Scotch-Irish ancestry. The father of our subject was a farmer by occupation, and was a member of the Legislature of Kentucky in 1842-43, where he served with distinction; the date of his birth was September, 1804, and his death March 21, 1879. William Parker, an ancestor and an Englishman, married a Miss Tudor. Arthur B. Parker is the second of a family of nine children, only five of whom are living. He served four years in the Confederate Army in Company G, Fifth Kentucky Cavalry, and was clerk of Boone County from 1866 to 1874. In 1885 he was appointed deputy internal revenue collector, which office he still holds; he is a member of the Masonic fraternity. In 1866 he married Sallie J. Walton, daughter of John H. Walton, of Boone County; she died June 24, 1876, leaving three children, viz.: Hood, Helen and Arthur. Mr. Parker then married Antonia Berkshire, daughter of William C. Berkshire, and one child has blessed their union, Sadie V., born January 21, 1887. Mrs. Parker is a member of the Christian Church.
