J. M. Kinser, postmaster of Hope, Ark., was appointed to his present position under the present administration (Harrison) on March 27, 1889, assumed charge of the office on April 22. 1881, and has discharged his official duties in a satisfactory manner since. Mr. Kinser was born in Murray County, Ga., February 24, 1850. He was reared on a farm in Bradley and Polk Counties, Tenn., secured a fair education in the common schools, and in the fall of I860 he came to Arkansas and located at Magnolia, Columbia County, where he clerked in a store for some time, after which he embarked in the newspaper business, publishing several newspapers. In 1875 he came to Hope, clerked in a store, and afterward was express agent for the Pacific Express Company, and also joint agent for the Arkansas & Louisiana Railway Company, for nine years, and up to the time of his appointment as postmaster. Mr. Kinser’s marriage occurred on January 7, 1873, to Miss Nettie Hicks, of Magnolia, Columbia County, Ark., and to them have been born five children: Mina, Josie, Hixie, Aikin and Thomas. Mr. Kinser has been a member of the school board since 1886, and he and his wife are members of the Old School Presbyterian Church. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and senior warden of Whitfield Lodge No. 239; belongs to the A. L. of H., of which he is a charter member, and is and has been for a number of terms grand treasurer of this organization. He is a good Republican in his political views.
