Henry G. Austin, saw-mill man, Hempstead County. Although Mr. Austin was born in Louisiana, he recollects very little about his native State, as his parents moved from that State to Arkansas when he was but four years of age, and he has ever since been a resident of this region. His father, William Austin, was born in Louisiana, in 1836, and there grew to manhood, subsequently marrying (in 1853) Miss Eliza A. Lee, also a native of Louisiana, born in 1837. The subject of this sketch is their only child, and he was born on November 3, 1855. The father received his final summons in 1863, but his widow still survives, and makes her home with her son. She is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, as was her husband. The immediate subject of this sketch was united in marriage in 1876 to Miss Mattie A. Urrey (daughter of Andrew J. and Mary (Chandler) Urrey), who was born in Lafayette County, Ark., in 1855, and six children have been given to them, two of whom have since died, viz.: William A., Rosa M., Maud and Gertrude; Asa F. and James are deceased. Mr. Austin erected his large saw-mill in 1887, fitted it with all modern equipments, and now runs it at its full capacity, 12,000 feet per day.
