Below is a family biography included in The History of Newton County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Samuel Boyer is of German descent, and is a son of Abraham Boyer, who was born on a farm in Somerset County, Penn., came to Ohio when a young man, locating in Wayne County. He married Mary Harmon, and by her became the father of ten children: Joseph, George, John, Jacob, Samuel, Ann, Abraham, Sarah and Margaret, and one deceased. In 1869 they moved to Newton County, Mo., and purchased forty acres of land, on which the father died in 1886, at the age of seventy-seven years. He was a Democrat. His son, Samuel, was born in Ohio in 1848, and was educated in the common schools. He went to Indiana when a young man, thence to Michigan, and, in 1875, came to Newton County, Mo., where he is now residing on a farm of eighty acres. He is a Republican in politics. He was married to Susanah Megary, daughter of David and Catherine (Weirich) Megary, and by her had five children, three now living: Bert, Daniel and Earl E.
