John W. Liles, farmer and stock dealer, of Newton County, Mo., was born in that county and State, August 16, 1851, son of Dr. Franklin and Martha (Davis) Liles, both natives of Missouri. John W. was reared in Johnson County, Tex., and in 1872 he returned to his native State, where he engaged in farming. He then chose for his companion in life the daughter of James Huffman, Miss Margaret Emma, who bore him two sons and four daughters: Mattie Lee, born in 1875; William Leonard, born in 1877; Mary Elizabeth, born in 1879; Eva May, born in 1881; Cora Eliza, born in 1883, and George Wesley, born in 1887. Mr. Liles has 120 acres of good, well improved land, eighty acres of which are prairie land and twenty are timber. Mr. Liles is a member of the Farmers’ Alliance, and he and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, he being a steward in the same.
