Cyrus F. Barnes, miner and farmer, Lincoln County, Mo., was born in McLean County, Ill.. September 27, 1842, and is a son of William H. and Mary (Demerit) Barnes, who were horn in Ohio and Tennessee, respectively. The father, who was a farmer and Methodist minister, moved from Illinois to Iowa in 1845, locating in Montezuma, where he lived until 1856. From that time until 1860 he resided in Linn County, Kas., and after again residing in Iowa came to Gentry County, Mo. Cyrus F. Barnes was reared on a farm, and also followed the occupation of saw-milling. He came to Newton County in 1887, and in connection with farming follows the occupation of mining. He owns 560 acres of land, besides the farm on which he lives, consisting of 125 acres, on which is a good orchard of 2,000 trees. In 1863 Mary A. Bond, a native of Clay County, Mo., became his wife, and nine children have blessed their union: Lona G., William H., Charles F., Minnie A., Viola M., Clarence M., Harland E., Sterling G. and Claud V.
