Dr. C. E. Davis, dental surgeon, is justly recognized as one of the leading dentists in Southwest Missouri, and has risen to prominence in his profession in Newton County. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, August 23, 1851, and is a son of Augustus C. Davis, who was a native of the “Hoosier State,” and was married to Virginia E. Laurens, a native of the “Old Dominion.” Their son, Charles E., was reared in Covington, Ky., until twelve years of age, and the following five years he spent in Marion County, Ill. He then went to St. Louis, where he began the study of dentistry, and after a thorough preparation commenced the arduous duties of his profession. He came to Newton County, Mo., but impaired health prevented close confinement to his office, and he spent some time in traveling in Kansas, Dakota, Idaho, New Mexico, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Texas. After this varied experience he returned to Newton County, better pleased than ever before with the advantages it offers as a home. Dr. Davis is an excellent dentist, and promptly avails himself of new methods and improvements which are developed in his profession. He was married in 1873, to Emma L. Handlan, of St. Louis, and by her has three children: Lottie, Charles B. and Emma.
