Andrew Devine is a son of Terrence Devine, who emigrated from Ireland to America in 1838, and located on a farm in Wabash County, Ind., in 1842, where he resided until his death in 1852. Andrew Devine was born in the “Emerald Isle,” in 1837, and was brought to America by his parents. He was reared on a farm, and after reaching man’s estate was married to Mary J. Smith, daughter of Edward and Julia (Griffith) Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Devine became the parents of seven children: Edward, Bridget, Annie, Hubert, Ellen, Clara and Celestia. Mr. Devine enlisted in Company K, One Hundred and First Indiana Volunteer Infantry, and served for three years. He was mustered out at Louisville, Ky., and honorably discharged at Indianapolis, Ind. Since the war he has been in a disabled condition, owing to exposure and the effects of long marching.
