A. J. Baurdick, cashier of the Neosho Savings Bank, is a native of Missouri, born in Osage County, and is of German parentage. He was reared in this and Cole Counties, with a mercantile experience. During the late war he enlisted in the Federal army, Eighth Missouri Volunteer Infantry, and served four and a half years; was in the battles of Fort Donelson, Shiloh, Corinth, Vicksburg, Chattanooga and many others; was with Sherman in his march to the sea, and participated in the grand review at Washington. After the war Mr. Baurdick engaged in business in Sedalia, and remained there until 1879, when he came to Newton County, and here engaged in selling goods until 1885. He was then elected cashier of the Neosho Savings Bank, and was one of the organizers of the same. He is also owner of the Neosho Roller Flouring Mill, with all the improved machinery, which has a capacity of fifty barrels per day. The product is unsurpassed, and meets with a ready sale in Arkansas, Missouri and Texas. Mr. Baurdick is a great reader, and a man of unusual intelligence. He is a Republican in his political views, is positive in his convictions, but does not thrust them on others. He is a very capable business man, a safe financier, and enjoys the confidence of the people to a wonderful degree.
