DODGSON, WILLIAM, deceased, was born in England, in 1806; in his seventeenth year he accompanied his parents to America; after a long voyage the little party of emigrants landed in New York City, thence to the broad prairies of Illinois, and located near Carrollton, in Greene County; in his twentieth year he married Miss Brown, of Greene County, by whom he had eight children, five are living; shortly after his marriage, Mr. D., a very energetic man, purchased an 80 acre tract of land, and for a number of years was well and favorably known as the Carrollton butcher. Mr. and Mrs. Dodgson have long since passed away; his second wife was Miss Sarah Garrison, by whom he had seven children: Maria, Eliza, William, Alice, Carrie, Charles, and George not living; Mr. Dodgson owned at the time of his death 350 acres of valuable land, part of which lies in the corporation of White Hall; he was held in high esteem by all.
