AKERS, JOSEPH, farmer and stock raiser, Sec. I, P.O. Barrow. Mr. Akers was born in Scott County, Illinois, in 1846. On attaining his majority he was united in marriage to Miss Mary A., daughter of James Thompson, who settled in Greene County when scarcely a cabin broke the monotony of our western prairies. Shortly after his marriage Mr. Akers moved to Greene County, near Barrow, where he at first rented the farm he now owns, comprising 200 acres. This property has been acquired within the last ten years by the exercise of economy, judgment and hard work. A better showing for a young man has not been equaled in this county. Mr. Akers is a native of Greene County, born in 1848.
