BARTON, ISAAC, farmer and stock raiser, Sec. 21, was born in Lancaster Township, Lancaster County, Pa., on the 28th of April, 1817. He was the fifth child of Thomas and Phoebe Ann Barton, both natives of England, who voyaged to America in an early day, settling in Pennsylvania, where he followed farming, and where he was married on the 2d of May, 1839, to Miss Mary Chamberlain, of Little York, who died on the 25th of April, 1848. When war was declared between Mexico and the United States Government, Isaac Barton enlisted in Co. I, 1st Regular Inf., and participated in the Battles of Palo Alto, Resaca, Monterey, Vera Cruz, Cerro Cordo, Penale Pass, Cherubusco, Molino Del Rey, and was also at the siege of Mexico. On leaving Pennsylvania, in 1858, he proceeded to Iowa, where he remained two years, when he came to Greene County. In 1859, during the Pike’s Peak excitement, he made an overland trip, and remained through one Summer in Colorado. Returning to Greene County, he was married to Mrs. Ann J. Carter, on the 1st day of Jan., 1860. Mrs. Barton is a daughter of Stephen and Mary Spencer. They have two children, Elisha T, and Eva Ann.
