In this vintage photo:
Immigrants passing by for medical examination. All immigrants had to show that they were disease free before they would be allowed to immigrate. In this photo, a doctor is performing a simple eye test. If a person had poor eyesight, they were rejected since they might not be able to work and would require public financial assistance.
