The tombstone and grave site of Milburn Stone, best known as "Doc Adams" on the Gunsmoke television series. Stone was born as Hugh Milburn Stone on July 5, 1904 at Burrton, Kansas, the son of Herbert and Laura (Belfield) Stone. Although Stone began his Hollywood career in the 1930's, it was not until he was cast as "Doc Adams" in the television version of Gunsmoke that he became known as a highly familiar and popular actor. (The radio version of Gunsmoke featured Howard McNear as Doc Adams. McNear is best known as the barber, Floyd Lawson on The Andy Griffith Show. McNear made several appearances as other characters on the Gunsmoke television series.)

Gunsmoke became one of most successful and long running television series of all time, being broadcast for twenty seasons from 1955 to 1975 and featuring a total 635 episodes. Milburn Stone along with James Arness (Matt Dillon) have the distinction of being the only two actors to be included in all twenty seasons of Gunsmoke. Stone appeared in a total of 604 of the 635 episodes.

Five years after Gunsmoke ended, Milburn Stone died on June 12, 1980 in the La Jolla area of San Diego, at the age of 75 of a heart attack. He is buried in El Camino Memorial Park Cemetery, San Diego, California. His wife, Jane Stone, died in 2002 and is buried next to him. See the additional photo below.
