The tombstone and grave site of Eddie Albert and his wife, Margo Bolado Albert. Born as Edward Albert Heimberger on April 22, 1906 at Rock Island, Illinois, he shortened his name to simply Eddie Albert after tiring of hearing his birth surname mispronounced as Hamburger. Although Albert is most well known for his role as Oliver Wendell Douglas on the popular Green Acres television series, he also acted in many other roles in a career that spanned more than fifty years. His first role was in the movie, Brother Rat in 1938. This was followed by a quick succession of roles in seventeen movies between 1938 and 1943. In 1943, Albert's acting career was briefly placed on hold as he served as a lieutenant in the U. S. Naval Reserve. His service in World War Two during the November 20-23, 1943, Battle of Tarawa in the Gilbert Islands earned him the bronze star for his role in rescuing a number of marines who were trapped under heavy enemy fire. After the war, Albert's career resumed with memorable roles in the movies Roman Holiday (1954), Oklahoma! (1955), The Heartbreak Kid (1973) and The Longest Yard (1974) plus numerous other roles.

Albert's television career included The Eddie Albert Show (1953), Green Acres (1965-1971), Switch (1975-1978), and Falcon Crest (1988) plus appearances in episodes of a number of other television series.

Eddie Albert died of pneumonia on May 26, 2005 in Pacific Palisides, California. Albert had struggled with Alzheimer's disease during his last years; he was 99 years old when he died. His remains are buried in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. Albert is buried next to his wife, Margo Bolando Albert who had died twenty years earlier in 1985.
