Below is a family biography included in The History of Wayne County, Tennessee published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1886.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. George T. Choat is a Wayne County Tennessean, and was born in 1845, son of Simpson and Sarah (Burns) Choat. [See sketch of Jackson M. Choat] George T. resided with his widowed mother after his father’s death, and in 1868 was united in marriage to Margaret E. Graves, daughter of John H. and Sallie Graves. Mrs. Choat was born in Tennessee in 1847, and is the mother of seven children: Henrietta V., William S., Arthur T., Sallie L., May L., V. B. and P. B. In 1864 Mr. Choat enlisted in the Confederate service, serving until the close of the war. He surrendered at Charlotte, N. C., in May, 1865. In 1871 he located on the farm, and purchased it in 1881. It lies on Buffalo River and contains 260 acres of land, 180 acres of which are in a good state of cultivation. Mr. Choat has lived an honorable life, and is one of the worthy and influential citizens of the county. In politics he is a stanch Democrat. His grandfather, Arthur Choat, was a pioneer citizen of Wayne County, having located on Buffalo River when the country was covered with canebrake.
