Ephraim A. Dean, ex-sheriff of Hickman County, and proprietor of the Centreville Hotel, is a native of Williamson County, Tenn., born on the 31st of July, 1838. His parents, John and Eliza (Andrews) Dean, were born in South Carolina and Williamson County, Tenn., in 1803 and 1802 respectively. The father’s family came from the Palmetto State to Tennessee in the pioneer days of the latter State, and settled in Williamson County in 1844. The father died in Hickman County, in 1874, to which county he had moved in 1843. The mother died in 1878. Our subject was reared on a farm, educated in the country schools, and was a soldier in the late war, serving in Company H, Eleventh Tennessee Infantry, and arose to the rank of second lieutenant. He was a tried and true soldier, and was wounded at the battle of Murfreesboro. From 1866 until 1872 he farmed, and at the latter date was elected sheriff of the county, and re-elected in 1874, and again in 1876. In 1882 he removed to Centreville, where he now resides. In 1883-84 he erected the Centreville Hotel, which is a fine brick building, and cost $10,000. In 1865 Mr. Dean wedded Susan Anderson, who was born May 11, 1842, and has borne him two children: Elmer A. and John H. In politics Mr. Dean is independent. He is one of the best citizens of the county, generous, charitable and a true gentleman. His wife is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
