Below is a family biography included in The History of Hickman County, Tennessee published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1886.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Andrew Norris, M. D., is the sixth of seven children born to the marriage of A. W. Norris and Elizabeth Larkin, who were born in Cincinnati, Ohio, March 8, 1791, and Williamson County, Tenn., February 4, 1801, respectively. The father came to Tennessee when a young man and through life followed agricultural pursuits, dying May 29, 1869. The mother died September 20, 1872. Our subject was born in Williamson County November 27, 1839, and his early education was acquired at the Union Academy in his native county, and at a later period he became a student at the Triune Male Academy. He began the study of medicine in 1856 at Middleton, Rutherford County, under the directions of Dr. John L. Webb, and graduated from the medical department of the Nashville University in 1859. In 1860 he located at Fosterville, Tenn., where he continued to reside and practice until the spring of 1861, at which time he enlisted in Company F, Eighteenth Tennessee Volunteer Infantry, Confederate States Army, and was chosen first lieutenant, which position he held until 1862. He then resigned his command and joined the Fourth Tennessee Cavalry, serving until the close of the war. He was captured at the fall of Fort Donelson and held a prisoner for ninety days. In 1865 he came to Hickman County, where he has practiced his profession with the best of success ever since. Since 1870 he has resided in Centreville, and his office is located at Goodrich Station. September 21, 1865, he married Mollie E. Walker, born January 25, 1845, and seven children have blessed their union: John, Mackie P., Cora B., Matilda C., William W., Fannie and Bernard. Dr. Norris is a Democrat, formerly a Whig, and he and Mrs. Norris are members of the Christian Church.
