Below is a family biography included in The History of Dyer County, Tennessee published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

Richmond Herron resides in the Ninth District, and engages in farming and stock raising. He was the son of Uriah M. and Eleanor (Pace) Herron, and was born in Benton County in 1833. He was one of two children. His father was of Welsh extraction, born in Georgia in 1801. He remained at home until twenty-eight years of age, moving with his parents to Benton County when about grown. In 1828 he married Miss Eleanor Pace. He was a mechanic in early life; in 1853 he moved to Dyer County and purchased 530 acres in the Ninth District; was a member of the Baptist Church, and died in 1870. Mrs. Herron was born in Georgia, in 1809, and died in 1881. Richmond Herron was educated in Dyer County; he enlisted in the Twenty-second Tennessee Infantry, under Capt. Williams, but was furloughed in a few months on account of ill health, and returned to Dyer County and resumed farming. In 1870 he ran a saw-mill and cotton-gin, which he continued for ten years in connection with farming. In October, 1872, he married Miss Martha C., daughter of Thomas and Martha Pace, and by her had four children, only two surviving: Tennie I. and Thomas M. In 1884 he moved to Newbern, that his children might have better school advantages. He owns 300 acres of land three miles northeast of Newbern, also 120 acres in another part of the county, and three houses and lots in Newbern. He is a Democrat, and with his wife belongs to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Herron was born in Dyer County, in 1852. Her mother is a native of Tennessee, and is living yet. Her father was born in Georgia and died in 1875.
