Mr. M. M. Warren was born in Dyer County, in 1858, and resides in the First District. He is one of seven children; four are living. His parents were N. C. and S. G. (Mitchell) Warren. Mayor Thomas Mitchell, his grandfather on his mother’s side, was born in East Tennessee, in 1797, and when about twenty years of age, went to the Indian Nation, and made a large sum of money selling goods to them. He held the rank of major in the war of 1812, moved to Dyer County in 1854, and was one of the prominent citizens; he also engaged in teaching when young. N. C. Warren, our subject’s father, was born near Murfreesboro, Tenn., in 1828; went to Gibson County when a youth, married there, and moved to Dyer County, in the winter of 1853, being one of the large landowners of the county—owning in the home place alone 860 acres, and he was well known throughout the county. He was a warm-hearted man, liberal in his charities to the poor and for all religious purposes, and strictly honest in all business transactions, and by perseverance and energy amassed a large property. He died March 23, 1876. Our subject’s mother was also born in Rutherford County, February 22, 1829, and now resides at the homestead. Mr. M. M. Warren was educated at Friendship, Tenn., under Prof. Caldwell and Prof, Meadows. May 24, 1883, he married Miss M. L., daughter of J. F. and S. E. Young. Mrs. Warren was born in Lauderdale County; they have one daughter, Monia. His wife’s mother was a Miss Robertson, born in Rutherford County, in 1802, and died in 1853. Soon after his marriage he moved to Dyer County. He owns a valuable farm of 150 acres, and inherits his father’s energy and liberal disposition; his farm is located eleven miles southeast of Dyersburg, on the Dyersburg and Trenton road. He is a Democrat, and a member of the Masonic fraternity, and with his wife belongs to the Methodist Church.
