Below is a family biography included in The History of Dyer County, Tennessee published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. G. W. Parker, proprietor of the Newbern Rolling Mills, is one of a family of twelve children, seven of them still living. He was born in Giles County, July 9, 1845, his parents being A. W. and D. P. Parker. His father was born in Giles County, in 1810, and was a farmer by occupation, and still lives within two miles of the place of his birth. Mr. Parker’s mother was also a native of Giles County, born about 1811, and died in 1858. He was educated in that county, and in 1866 he married Miss Mollie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Inman. She was born in Giles County, in 1846, and by their union have three children: Ada R., Mattie P. and Allie. Soon after moving to Dyer County, in 1869, he embarked in the milling business, which he still successfully follows. Mr. Parker has always had business tact, and this, combined with his energy and sound judgment, has made him succeed. He contributes liberally to all enterprises that tend to the advancement of Newbern, and is one of the trustees of the Newbern school board. Mr. Parker is in politics a Democrat, and his wife and himself are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and he is justly regarded as one of Newbern’s most worthy citizens.
