Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. Warner & Co.   These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. ROBERT B. McMASTER, P. O. Sewickley, was born August 20, 1851, in Pittsburgh. His grandfather, Hugh, was a native of County Antrim, Ireland, and came to America in 1811, settling in Pittsburgh with his wife, nee Eleanor Barr, and their three children: Margaret, John and James; two other children were born to them in Pittsburgh, Hugh and Andrew. Hugh McMaster, Sr., kept a grocery-store, and owned property where the Adams Express company’s building now stands. He died in 1842, his wife in 1839. Politically he was a whig. Andrew McMaster, the father of Robert B., was born December 25, 1818, in Pittsburgh; graduated from the Western University in the class of 1837. Andrew was a lawyer and alderman; represented the Third ward; politically a republican. He died December 4, 1863. His wife was Grace, daughter of Andrew and Margaret (Barr) Barclay, and their two sons were Robert B. and Joseph R. The former graduated from the Western University, class of 1872, and engaged in fruit-growing on the farm. He married Mary I. Cotton, and they have one son, Hugh A.
