Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. JOHN G. SMITH, farmer, post office Sharpsburg, was born in Ohio township, Allegheny county, Pa., in 1828. John Smith, his father, came from County Tyrone, Ireland, about 1814, and located first in New York state, where he remained one year, moving thence to Ohio township, Allegheny county, Pa., where he purchased a farm. In 1832 he came to Indiana township, Allegheny county (now O’Hara township), and bought eighty-six acres of land, all of which is now owned by our subject. He was a farmer, and married Fannie Caldwell, who bore him seven children, two living. John died, aged ninety-three years, and his wife, aged seventy-nine years. Our subject was reared and educated in Indiana township, and has followed farming and gardening. In 1856 he married Rebecca J. Ramage, daughter of Benjamin Ramage, of Allegheny county. Three children have blessed this union: William John, Frank and Harry J. Mr. Smith has resided on his present farm for the last five years. He and family are members of the M. E. Church. Politically he is a republican.
