HENRY ORVILLE HUKILL, assistant to purchasing-agent of the Pennsylvania lines west of Pittsburgh, Bellevue, was born at Steubenville, Ohio, May 25, 1844, a son of Henry J. and Eliza (Lucas) Hukill. His father was born in Maryland in 1800, and died in Steubenville in 1858; was a brick maker and contractor, and was a prominent Mason, being high priest of the chapter for twenty-two years. Henry O. Hukill received a common-school education, and began life as a messenger boy in a railroad telegraph office. He followed the telegraph business for some time, and by industry worked his way up to his present position as assistant to purchasing-agent for the Pennsylvania lines west of Pittsburgh. He was married in Steubenville in 1865, to Kate Coble, daughter of Jacob and Jane (Sterling) Coble, and to them was born one child, James Layng. His wife dying in 1878, Mr. Hukill married, in 1880, Kate, daughter of Capt. James and Hannah (Gillott) Wilkins, of Allegheny. Her father was born in 1818 and died in 1871; was for many years connected with the steamboat commerce of that city, and latterly was a very prominent oil man. He was a son of David Wilkins, a commission merchant of the city of Pittsburgh. Mr. and Mrs. Hukill have one child, Henry Orville, Jr. Mr. Hukill is a member of the M. P. Church; his wife was reared a Baptist. He is a republican, and a member of the F. & A. M.
