Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. Warner & Co.   These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. E. R. KRAMER, cashier, First National Bank of Allegheny, is a son of John P. Kramer, and was born in Greensboro, Greene county, Pa. His paternal grandfather, Baltzer Kramer, came from Germany, settled in Greensboro, Greene county, where he built a glassworks, the earliest establishment west of the mountains. John P. Kramer, father of E. R., came here about 1840. and commenced in the general grocery business in Sewickley, which he conducted successfully for some years, after which he engaged in the banking business in the employ of the banking-house of Kramer & Rahm. as book keeper, remaining twenty-five years. In 1864 he was elected cashier of the First National Bank of Allegheny where he remained until his resignation, in 1878. He died Dec. 1, 1884. Politically he was identified with the republican party. E. R. Kramer was educated in Sewickley, and became an employe of the above-named bank in 1878; subsequently he was promoted to the position of cashier. He had previously been employed for two years by the first collector in the Twenty-third Revenue district.
