Below is a family biography included in The History of Brown County, Ohio published by W. H. Beers & Co. in 1883.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. G. N. PICKERELL, farmer, P. O. Ripley, is a son of Lovell and Fancheny (Bartholamew) Pickerell, and was born in Byrd Township, Brown Co., in 1832. His father is a native of Mason County, Ky., where he was born in 1801, and was brought to this county by his father, Samuel, in 1805, who was among those of the early pioneers of Byrd, where he passed the remainder of his earthly days. Samuel Bartholamew, the maternal grandparent of our subject, was a native of Vermont, who with his family made their settlement in Jefferson Township, Brown County, in 1812, where his death is recorded. His daughter Fancheny, the mother of our subject, is still living at this time in the seventy-eighth year of her age, and in the enjoyment of good health. Of the six children born to the parents of our subject, three are living and have raised families. Mr. P. was united in marriage to Miss Mary, daughter of Isaac Morris, in 1856. Three children, all living, have been given to this union, viz.: Lou E. (wife of William Pittengen), Martha and George. Mr. P. has a farm of 110 acres, valued at $7,000. He volunteered his services in the Fortieth Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and served the call of hundred days. He has filled the chair of School Director, and is an Elder in the church of the Disciples at Ripley. The family and its branches rank among those of Brown County early pilgrims and respected pioneers.
