Below is a family biography included in The History of Webster County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

William E. Jones, a successful farmer and stock raiser of East Dallas, Township, was born in the “Old North State” September 19, 1828, and is a son of Aquilla Jones, who, like his son William E., was born and reared in Davidson County, N. C. He was married there to Miss Susanna Tacher, and in 1870 moved to Missouri, settling in Marshfield, where he resided until his death, April 25, 1873. His widow survives him at the age of eighty-three years, and resides with her son, William E. The latter was reared in North Carolina, and February 12, 1857, was there married to Miss Mary A. Zink, who was also a native of Davidson County. Her father, Jacob Zink, was a prominent North Carolinian. In 1873 William E. Jones removed with his family to Missouri, and settled in Webster County, where he purchased the farm of 160 acres where he now resides. The farm was only slightly cleared at that time, but he has added many improvements, and has about 100 acres under cultivation. He has a good two-story residence and an orchard of 250 bearing apple trees, and 1,050 young trees of the Ben Davis variety, and he intends putting out 1,000 more trees of the same variety. Besides his home farm he has 160 acres of land, with seventy acres under cultivation, situated about a half mile from his home, on Dry Creek, a portion of which is bottom land. Mr. and Mrs. Jones have been blessed with a family of six children: Jacob, Sarah (wife of W. L. Alsup), Charles W., Mollie L., Robert A. and Anna. The family worship in the Baptist Church, and Mr. Jones is a strong supporter of Democratic principles.
