Below is a family biography included in The History of Webster County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Oscar T. Hamlin, attorney at law, was born in Pickens County, S. C., August 5, 1866, and is the son of Rev. J. R. and Mary A. (King) Hamlin, natives of North Carolina, the father born about 1826 and the mother about 1828. They removed from their native State to South Carolina about 1856, and from there to Bourbon, Crawford Co., Mo., in 1869, where they now reside. The father is a Baptist minister, and has followed his ministerial duties for thirty years. Oscar T. Hamlin is the youngest living of nine children born to his parents. He first attended the public schools, and then spent two years at the Salem Graded School, in Dent County. Later he spent two years at the Southwest Baptist College, at Bolivar, Polk Co., Mo., and in December, 1885, he began the study of law. In March, 1887, he entered the law office of his brother, at Bolivar, Mo., and October 18, 1887, was admitted to the bar at that place. He came to Marshfield, Mo., in January, 1888, and here has since continued the practice of his profession, meeting with good success. He is a Democrat in his political opinions, and cast his first presidential vote for Grover Cleveland. He is a member of the Baptist Church, and is an honorable, upright citizen.
