Below is a family biography included in The History of Webster County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Hiram Jennings is a native of Missouri, born in Webster County on the 18th of January, 1853, and is a son of John and Elizabeth (Sartin) Jennings, who were born in North Carolina and Kentucky, respectively. About 1840 they moved to Greene County, Mo., but shortly after located on their present farm in Benton Township. Hiram Jennings grew to manhood in Webster County, and remained with his father until he attained his majority, when he was married in this county, on the 17th of January, 1875, to Miss Artelia Watts, a native of the county, and a daughter of James Watts. After his marriage he resided on his father’s farm for a few years, being engaged in trading in stock, and in 1880 moved to his present farm, and engaged in mercantile pursuits in a small way, but has gradually increased his business until he now has a large and lucrative trade. He also has an excellent farm of 210 acres, and has about seventy-five acres under cultivation. His children’s names are as follows: Ellis L., Laura B. and John E. Mr. Jennings has been postmaster of Sarvis Point since 1882, and has proved to be an efficient officer.
