Frederick King, attorney at law, real estate, loan and abstract agent, and publisher of the Standard, was born in Sharon, Litchfield Co., Conn., in 1843. He was reared on a farm, remaining there until 1861, when July 13 he enlisted as private in Company I, Fifth Regiment Connecticut Volunteers, and served until July 22, 1864. He was in Banks’ command, in the Shenandoah Valley, and in the Army of the Potomac until September, 1864, taking part in the engagements at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and many minor battles. Subsequently he was in the First Brigade, First Division, Twentieth Corps, Army of the Cumberland, from October, 1864, serving in Tennessee, North Alabama, and with Sherman on the Atlanta campaign, participating in all the great moves and battles of that campaign. Following this Mr. King resided in Washington, D. C., for four years, from April, 1865, to March, 1869, after which he came west to Greene County, Mo., in March, 1869, and located near Republic, in that county, purchasing a farm. He began the study of the legal profession, and was subsequently admitted to the practice of law. In March, 1885, he moved to Marshfield, and has since resided in this place. He was Eminent Commander (and charter member) of St. Johns Commandery No. 20, Knights Templar, at Springfield, for two terms. In 1888 Mr. King was elected delegate from the Thirteenth District to the Republican National Convention at Chicago, voting for Gen. Harrison. His connection with the affairs of Webster County has proved fortunate for the people of this community. As a member of the real estate, loan and abstract firm of King & Moore he has built up a good business. Professionally his standing is widely recognized, while no little influence is exerted in the publication of the Standard.
