Tenn., August 16, 1840, and is the fifth of eight children born to his father’s first marriage. The father was born in Ray County, E. Tenn., August 14, 1808, and died September 15, 1882, at Marshville, Mo. He was a farmer and stock trader by occupation, and during the late war lost $100,000, all he possessed. The mother was born in Marion County, E. Tenn., in 1815, and died in her native county in 1855. Their son, Anderson H. Chitty, remained on his father’s farm until 1863, when he enlisted in Company C, Thirty-second Tennessee, Confederate Army, and served until the war closed. After the war he continued farming in Tennessee until 1869, when he came to Marshfield. Previous to this, October 16, 1867, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Wallace, a native of Jackson County, Ala., born September 17, 1847, and daughter of William and Elizabeth (Parker) Wallace. Her father was born in Raleigh, N. C., February 29, 1813, and died September 30, 1864, in Jackson County, Ala. The mother was born January 14, 1832, and died February 9, 1883, in Jackson County, Ala. Mrs. Chitty is the third of ten children born to her parents, nine now living. After coming to Marshfield, in 1869, Mr. Chitty followed farming until 1874, when he engaged in the hotel business, and June 16, 1880, bought his present hotel. He has also been engaged in stock trading, and took stock south for seven winters, and this he has continued more or less ever since. He has one of the best hotels in Southwest Missouri, and is a wide-awake business man. To Mr. and Mrs. Chitty have been born two children, Willie D., born May 31, 1871, and Gayford Wallace, born June 21, 1888. Mr. Chitty is a Democrat politically, and cast his first presidential vote for Horace Greeley. He is a member of Webster Lodge No. 163, I. O. O.
