James H. Wilson, one of the early settlers in Missouri, was born on the 1st of January, 1812, and is a son of Eli B. Wilson, a sketch of whom is given elsewhere. He was born in the “Buckeye State,” but was reared in Kentucky, and in 1832 came to Missouri, where he was married to Lucinda Coppedge, who died in Crawford County in 1858, leaving eight children. After her death Mr. Wilson married Mrs. Nancy J. Yowell, nee Bradford, by whom he is the father of six children. He is an old Jacksonian Democrat, and is now residing in Phelps County, and is a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, both wives being members of the same. His fifth child, Taylor S., was born in Crawford County (now Phelps) December 24, 1849, and received the education and rearing of the average farmer’s boy. He assisted his father until twenty years of age, when he began for himself, working by the month as a farm hand for nearly eight years. He now owns a good farm, with about seventy acres under cultivation. August 20, 1876, he was married to Miss Sallie E., a daughter of Col. James H. McBride. She was born in Springfield, Mo., September 15, 1856, and is the mother of the following children: James E., Albert C., David N., Dora A., Mildred J. and Lewis H. Both Mr. and Mrs. Wilson belong to the Christian Church.
