James B. Sherrill, one of the enterprising and successful citizens of Texas County, Mo., was born in that county December 27, 1853, and is the son of Nel and Margaret (Bradford) Sherrill, born in Tennessee and Texas County, Mo., respectively. When young, Nel Sherrill came with his parents to this county. He married Miss Elizabeth Campbell, who bore him one son. After her death he married Miss Bradford, and by her became the father of two sons. He was a farmer by occupation, and died in 1855. The mother afterward married Spencer Mitchell, who died at Little Rock, Ark., in the Confederate army. By this last marriage she became the mother of three children, one son and two daughters. Later the mother married Dr. Echols McKinney, by whom she had one son. She is still living, and is about fifty-three years old. James B. Sherrill was reared to farm life, and owing to the war received a rather limited education. After his mother was left a widow he assisted in supporting her, and at the age of nineteen he commenced working on the farm by the month, and became an independent farmer. February 25, 1874, he married Miss Margaret Campbell, who bore him three children, one son and two daughters. In 1879 he lost his wife, and two years later he married Miss Belle Wilson, a native of Dent County, born September 24, 1854, and to this union were born three children, one son and two daughters. Mr. Sherrill is the owner of 100 acres of land, well improved, and has lived in Sherrill Township all his life. For two years he was sheriff of that township. He is a Democrat in politics, a member of the Masonic lodge, and he and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South.
