Lee D. Bell, real estate, loan and insurance agent and mayor of Neosho, is one of the active and prominent business men and officials of the county. He was born in Avon, Fulton Co., Ill., March 20, 1858, and is a son of Thomas A. Miller and Louisa (Sackett) Bell, natives respectively of Ireland and Ohio, and the parents of four children: Flora I. (Mrs. N. A. Morford), Julia (Mrs. W. H. Haldeman), Lee D. and Lillie. Lee D. was reared principally in Warren County, Ill., and for several years was employed as clerk in the post-office at Roseville. In 1880 he moved to Maryville, Nodaway Co., Mo., and performed the same duties in the post-office of that city. At the end of eight months, deciding to go into business for himself, he located in Bethany, Harrison Co., Mo., where he was engaged in the real estate and loan business for about two and a half years. Since 1883 he has been a resident of Newton County, and has already proven himself to be a progressive and substantial citizen. He is very successful in the business in which he is engaged, and is doing well financially. Mr. Bell was-married December 25, 1882, to Miss Elvira S. Young, a native of Ohio, and they have one child, Kirk S. Mr. Bell is a member of the A. F. & A. M. and the A. O. U. W.
