Joseph Zahr, proprietor of the Granby Mills, at Granby, Mo., was born in Germany, July 14, 1823, and is a son of Michael and Annie Zahr. He came with his parents to the United States in 1828, settling in New York, where he (Joseph) was reared to the milling business, and where he lived until 1876, at which time he came to Newton County, Mo. Besides his mill he has 250 acres of land, and is well fixed financially. His mill is a good, substantial building, and he contemplates making it a full roller mill at an early day. Mr. Zahr is a worthy representative of his nation, and is industrious, frugal, and consequently successful. He was married in 1846 to Lena Keiffer, of Germany, and by her is the father of six children: Emma (wife of Joseph Forney), Kate, Mary (wife of James Mitchell), Benjamin, Joseph and Sarah.
