I. B. Jones, farmer, and an unassuming and substantial citizen of Newton County, whose life thus far has been busily and worthily occupied with the duties of everyday life, holds a prominent place among the representative men of this locality. He was born in Greene County, Tenn., June 15, 1826. His father, William Jones, was a native of Pennsylvania, and his mother, Mary (Howard) Jones, was born in Tennessee, where both died in 1848. L. B. Jones was reared in his native State, assisted on the farm, and since has followed this calling. December 17, 1852, Mr. Jones came to Newton County, Mo., and here has since made his home. He owns 237 acres of choice land, and is a prosperous farmer. February 20, 1855, he married Miss Rachel Pogue, a native of Tennessee, and a daughter of William Pogue, who was one of the early settlers of the county. To Mr. and Mrs. Jones were born five children: Mary V. (wife of Ezra Baxton), William E., George I., Martha A. and Newton E. Mr. Jones has held the office of justice of the peace, and as a man he is honest, upright, and honorable to the letter.
