Jones, who was born in Baltimore, Md., February 2, 1801. The said Richard B. while still quite young, about fourteen years old, was taken to Cynthiana, Ky., where he was reared to manhood. In 1826 he took a trip down the Ohio River, on board a keel-boat, thence up the Mississippi River to St. Paul, then down the Mississippi to New Orleans, and then up the White River. He lived in Kentucky, engaged in mercantile pursuits, until about 1843, at which time he came to Calhoun, Mo., where he lived for some time, and in 1845 he returned to Kentucky, but soon after located permanently in Newton County, Mo., where he was identified with its business interests until his death, which occurred in July, 1871. He married Mrs. Amelia Cromwell, a native of Kentucky, who bore him several children, six of whom grew to maturity, viz.: Hubbard F., Richard M., Fillmore T., Frank S., Sallie (Mrs. Frank Massey, of Springfield, Mo.) and Nannie (Mrs. Hughes, of Granby, Mo). Hubbard F. was born in Cynthiana, Ky., February 2, 1843, and was brought by his parents to Newton County, Mo., when quite young. Here he grew to manhood, and was reared to mercantile business. August 16, 1862, he enlisted as a private in the Federal army, in Company L, Eighth Missouri Volunteer Cavalry. On May 1, 1863, he received the commission of second lieutenant of said company, and in August, 1864, was promoted to captain of same. He was mustered out August 2, 1865, and returned to Neosho, where he was engaged in merchandising until 1873. In 1877 he engaged in the same business in Arkansas, continuing there seven years, when he sold out and returned to Neosho, and, in connection with F. J. Corpeny, opened the Bank of Neosho. He has devoted his time and attention to the interests of this bank, and has been amply repaid for his labors, as it ranks among the first institutions of the kind in Southwest Missouri. In 1866 Mr. Jones was married to Seph Richardson, a daughter of Col. Nathan Richardson, a pioneer settler of Newton County, and their union was blessed with the birth of five children: Fred, Mary, Mabel and Ella living, and baby boy dead. Mr. Jones is a prominent citizen of the county, and, although no political aspirant, is at the present time a member of the city council.
