P. W. Jones, a successful agriculturist of Moniteau County, was born in Sussex County, N. J., January 16, 1848, and is the son of Levi and Sarah A. (Landon) Jones, natives of Massachusetts and New Jersey, respectively, and both of English descent. The father emigrated from Massachusetts to New Jersey when about twenty-one years of age, was there married, and became the father of six children, four now living: William, who resides in Pennsylvania; Phineas W.; Amanda, wife of William Hawkins, and resides in Southern Michigan, and Walter, also in Southern Michigan. The father was a farmer by occupation, and came to Missouri in 1881. He died in Cape Girardeau County. P. W. Jones, subject of this sketch, was reared and educated in his native State. He assisted his father on the farm until 1871, when he came West to seek his fortune, locating in Moniteau County, and worked at the pottery business for thirteen years for A. Hoberecht. In 1879 he bought the farm where he now lives, consisting of 120 acres of good land, within one mile of the city limits of California. He was married in 1878 to Miss Christiana Spearl, a native of Missouri, and of German descent. This union resulted in the birth of four children: Frank, Ella, Willie and Sammie. Mrs. Jones is a member of the German Evangelical Church.
