Below is a family biography included in The History of Moniteau County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Martin L. Jahn, youngest son of Christoph G. and Ruth (Martin) Jahn, was born February 11, 1851, in Moniteau County, Mo. Christoph G. Jahn was a native of Saxony, Germany, and was born in November, 1802; he immigrated to America in the fall of 1830, went by boat from New Orleans to St. Louis, where he remained only a short time, and then went to Sheridan County, Mo. From the latter place he went to Boonville, Mo., where he worked some time at his trade of potter, and then abandoned it to engage in farming, in which occupation he spent the remainder of his life; his death occurred on the farm in Moniteau County, October 21, 1876. The mother of our subject was born in Cumberland, Ky., in April, 1807, and died in September, 1859. She removed with her brothers to Missouri from Tennessee, her parents having died in the latter State. Martin L. Jahn grew to manhood in the county of his birth, where he still lives. He was brought up on the farm, and received but limited school advantages. At the age of twenty-one he assumed control of the old homestead, upon which his father settled in 1851, and where he died. Martin L. was married in 1874 to Mary D. Weisser, who was born in Lancaster County, Penn., in 1856, and is a daughter of Lewis and Mary B. (Molt) Weisser, natives of Germany, who located in Missouri in 1865; the father died in 1874, at the age of forty-seven, and the mother is still living; their six children are all living, viz.: Mary D., Jacob, Lewis A., Anna, William C. and John H. The parents were members of the Lutheran Church. Seven children have blessed the union of Martin L. Jahn and wife: Emma M., Lewis G., Rosa B., Dora A., William G., George H. and Ida A. Mr. and Mrs. Jahn are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, of which he is a trustee. In politics he is a Republican.
