Henry W. Knierim, a prominent farmer of Linn Township, Moniteau County, was born in Cooper County, Mo., October 16, 1847, and is a son of William and Elizabeth (Blum) Knierim, natives of Hessen, Germany. The parents were married in their native country, and soon after set sail for America, landing in New York, whence they went to Pennsylvania; they remained but a short time in the latter place, and next located in Boonville, Cooper Co., Mo., where the father worked at his trade of potter about five years, subsequently moving a short distance into the country, where he built and operated a pottery until his death, which occurred in 1854. He was the father of five children, four of whom are living. The mother of our subject subsequently married Christian Herrnleben, by whom she had five children; she died in July, 1879, at the age of fifty-six years. Henry W. Kneirim was the second child, and was but seven years of age when his parents moved to Moniteau County. His educational advantages were limited, but he has acquired a good knowledge of books and the English language. When eighteen years old he learned the blacksmith’s trade in Jefferson City, and during 1871-76 he conducted a blacksmith shop in Jamestown. He removed to his present location in 1887, where he has a shop, but devotes the greater part of his attention to farming. He was married, in the spring of 1872, to Louise Knoepker, a native of Moniteau County, and a daughter of Herman and Caroline (Hehland) Knoepker, natives, respectively, of Prussia and Germany, who immigrated to America when young and located in Moniteau County, Mo.; the father died in 1865, and the mother is still living at the age of sixty-two years. To Mr. and Mrs. Knierim have been born nine children, viz.: Lilian Eva, Byron B., Anna O., Rosa E., Sylvanus S., Emma L., George G., Caroline E. (deceased) and an infant (deceased). The parents are members of the Evangelical Church. Mr. Kneirim is a prosperous farmer, and is actively interested in church and school work. He is also a member of the A. F. & A. M. of Jamestown.
