Dr. F. W. Houser. Among the physicians of Moniteau County, Mo., who have attained prominence in their profession may be mentioned Dr. Houser, who was born in Mexico, N. Y., on the 17th of March, 1854, his parents being George and Elizabeth (Barnaskey) Houser, who were born in Bavaria, Germany, and New York State, respectively. In 1829 George Houser immigrated to America, locating near Rome, N. Y., where he was engaged in husbandry for eighteen years. He then removed to Oswego County, N. Y., and after remaining about eight years in that place, moved to Iowa, and was a resident of Jones County until 1865, at which time he located in Moniteau County, in the State of Missouri, where he is extensively engaged in farming and raising fruit on a large scale. He and wife were the parents of thirteen children, nine of whom are living, of whom our subject is the eldest. He was only eleven years of age when he came to Moniteau County, and here he received the greater part of his education, being an attendant of the schools of California. He was a clerk in the mercantile establishment of J. G. Ehrhardt from the time he was fourteen years, and at the age of twenty years he began the study of medicine under Dr. J. J. Russell, and in 1880 graduated from the Missouri Medical College, and immediately entered upon the practice of his profession in California. In 1875 he engaged in the drug business with Dr. J. J. Russell, but the following year began the sale of drugs on his own account, and has continued the same up to the present time. The most of his attention is now given to his store, which is stocked with an excellent line of drugs. He held the office of county coroner one term, and was deputy county treasurer at one time. In 1880 he was married to Miss Lena Ehrhardt, by whom he has three children, Julius, Otto and Gideon. Dr. and Mrs. Houser are members of the Lutheran Church.
