Charles and William Bodamar, farmers of Linn Township, Moniteau County, are natives of near Philadelphia, Pa., and are sons of Christoph and Anna B. (Bodamar) Bodamar, who were born in the Kingdom of Wurtemberg, Germany, the former September 18, 1785, and the latter April 1, 1797. The parents were married in their native country, and in 1828, with three children, immigrated to America. They first located near Philadelphia, Pa., where the father engaged in farming, and remained nineteen years, when the family removed to Indiana, settling in Posey County. In 1857 they went to Missouri, where the father died July 28, 1868, and the mother June 26, 1887. Of their twelve children five are now living, viz.: Jacobena Keck, living in Indiana; Louisa Schnur, also in Indiana; Charles, William and Mary, all living together on the homestead in Moniteau County. Jacob was killed in 1863, during the war, and left a wife and three children living in Indiana. Frederick died in 1861, aged twenty-one. The others died young. The father was a member of the Lutheran Church, in which faith he died, while the mother retained her membership in the Methodist Episcopal Church until her death. Charles and William Bodamar lived with their parents until 1856, when they left their home in Indiana in the spring of that year and went to Minnesota; the following fall they went to Missouri, and purchased land in Linn Township, Moniteau County, to which the family removed, as above stated, in 1857. Both served in the State Militia during the late war, since which time they have devoted their entire attention to the farm, in the cultivation of which they have been very successful. They are unmarried, and their maiden sister, Mary, keeps house for them. Two orphan children have found a pleasant and happy home with them, and make the home a more natural one. Their names are Henry and Louisa. The family is well-to-do, and is widely known.
