Below is a family biography included in The History of Moniteau County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. B. S. Cooper, photographer at California, Mo., left his native city, Quebec, Canada, for the United States on July 4, 1868, and after spending several days in Montreal and Toronto, he went to his brother’s home in Saco, State of Maine, on September 20, 1868, where he worked at his profession with J. H. Warner and F. Hastings, in Factory Island, situated between Saco and Biddeford, Me., and in the following year, September 16, 1869, bought his first outfit of Dodge, Collier & Perkins, of Boston, Mass. Coming direct to California, Mo., and arriving here on September 21, 1869, he opened his first gallery in Dr. Gray’s old office, where his drug store now stands. Later he sold that stand to Taylor Adams, in the fall of 1872, and moved to Arrow Rock, Saline County, Mo., where he spent about three years. He traveled through Saline, LaFayette, Chariton, Boone and Howard Counties, and lived in Fayette, Howard County, at the time he married; On November 9, 1875, he married the fourth daughter of Judge J. D. Adams, of California, Mo., and moved back to California in October, 1876. His family now consists of seven children, viz.: Salethial A., Francis T., John G., Daisy P. (deceased), Alice A., Mamie L. and Albert B. S. Mr. B. S. Cooper, the subject of this sketch, is the sixth child of Francis and Anne (Sealy) Cooper, who were married on January 1, 1831. He was born April 11, 1839, and is now located in his present house, which he has built by industry and strictly business principles, his gallery occupying the entire second floor of his dwelling. He is a natural-born artist, which the excellency of his work proves, both in photographic productions and crayon work. He is a member of the Masonic and I. O. O. F. lodges, and in religious belief was raised in the Episcopal Church; is Calvinistic in his belief as is also his wife.
