Below is a family biography included in The History of Moniteau County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Abraham Felger was born in Wayne County, Ohio, January 28, 1845, being a son of Christopher and Sarah (Westenhaven) Felger, who were born in Pennsylvania, the father’s birth occurring December 31, 1799, and the mother’s October 28, 1809. He came to Ohio when a young man, and was first married, in 1821, to Elizabeth Showalter, who was born January 12, 1801, and died October 23, 1827, having borne two children: Jacob (born March 1, 1824, now living in Oregon), and Mary Ann (born August 23, 1825, and died January, 1889). Mr. Felger was married the second time to Sarah Westenhaven, March 20, 1828, and by this wife became the father of the following family: John (born September 10, 1829, resides in Chicago, Ill.), George (born October 30, 1830, lives in Ohio), Simon (born March 27, 1832, lives in New Mexico), David (born March 2, 1834, resides in Illinois), Susanna (born February 21, 1836, lives in Ohio), Lydia (born November 7, 1837, resides in Kansas), Sarah (born September 19, 1839, lives in Ohio), Elizabeth (born June 16, 1842, is a resident of Ohio), Abraham and Isaac (twins, were born January 28, 1845, the latter being a resident of Colorado), and Henry (born March 17, 1851, also lives in Ohio). The father died February 28, 1872. He was a successful farmer, a liberal giver to the cause of Christianity, and was an active member of the Evangelical Church. His wife died July 24, 1882, while visiting her children in Ohio. Abraham Felger remained with his parents until the breaking out of the Rebellion, and November 30, 1863, enlisted in Company D, Ninth Ohio Volunteers, and served until July 20, 1865, when he was honorably discharged at Lexington, N. C. He then returned to Ohio and resumed work on the home place, remaining until March 21, 1868, when he immigrated to Tipton, Mo., and the following year came to his present location. September 26, 1867, he was married to Miss Lizzie Poe, who was born in Montgomery County, Penn., August 28, 1843. Her parents, David and Mary (Moureau) Poe, moved to Ohio in 1862, and in 1868 came to Missouri. Their children are Caroline, Harry, Lizzie and Benjamin. Anna is deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Felger are the parents of three children: Charles F., Mary E. and John Louis, all at home. Mr. Felger is a Republican in politics, and he and wife are members of the Methodist Church.
